Former Dewar aide set for short-list
By Robbie Dinwoodie in the Herald
THE former head of policy to Donald Dewar, advocate Brian
Fitzpatrick, faces a tough fight to secure the Holyrood candidacy for the
Strathkelvin and Bearsden constituency bequeathed by the retirement of Sam
Galbraith. The other strong contender is the Scottish miners' leader, Nicky
Wilson, a member of Labour's Scottish executive who was regarded as unfortunate
not to secure a seat two years ago. A third runner is understood to be Rachel
McEwan, a party researcher.
These three are likely to make the short-list, which will be decided by the
party's Scottish executive on Monday, with the constituency party making the
final selection on Tuesday.
