The Rt Hon Jack McConnell MSP resigned as Scottish Labour leader on the 15 th August 2007. He will lead, on behalf of the Clinton Hunter Development Initiative, work on education in Malawi and Rwanda and take up a post as British High Commissioner to Malawi in 2009. The Downing Street Press Release announcing his nomination wrongly referred to him as "Jack McDonnell".
