saltire shield'The Network is behaving in a way that is worse than the old Militant Tendency. It is a party within a party and it ought to be excised out from within the party. We are a democratic socialist party, a broad church, and we ought to be tolerant to other views.'
Dennis Canavan MP, 29 th June 1998.

Potential Members of the Scottish Parliament

Inquisition

Ian Davidson MP (Glasgow Pollok) & Dennis Canavan MP (Falkirk West) were among numerous left-wingers and nationalists who were culled from Network supremo, Rosemary McKenna's list of Labour MSP candidates.

Mrs McKenna's own daughter was among the successful candidates and hopes to be selected for her mother's seat. This is despite Labour's Rule 2.2 governing the selection procedure which says that members of the selection board 'must undertake that they are not interested in seeking selection themselves and have no personal interest in the outcome of the selection for any particular seat.'
