| Bob Handyside is a retired school teacher who has felt the need to come out of retirement and get involved in the politics of our land.
Bob began his working career as an apprentice piano repairer in Patersons opposite the Tron Church in Glasgow.
He was keen on music and played professionally with the big bands. He played at well known locations such as Cragburn Pavillion in Gourock and the Locarno Ballroom in Glasgow.
When Bob was called up to do his national service he was fortunate to have an opportunity to continue his music in a military band.
Bob played with the Royal Engineer's Army Band in Aldershot.
It was during his time in Aldershot that Bob was introduced to the Gospel of Christ through an Army Scripture Reader. After much heart searching Bob gave his heart to Christ and became a Christian.
After Bob was demobbed he gave up his music career and worked on an assembly line at Singers Factory in Clydebank for 12 years.
He also drove buses to augment his income and began training to be a school teacher.
After teacher training Bob started his teaching career in Stanley Green Secondary School in Foxbar, Paisley.
After two years he was promoted to Principal Teacher of Music at
St. Patricks High School, Dumbarton where he taught for 25 years until he retired in 1999.
Bob then did further studies and gained a BA Hons. degree in Theology from Gloucester University.
Bob is keen on travel. He has travelled in the Far East, China, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, He has also travelled in Turkey and the Mediterranean area and in America and South Africa.
Bob has a particular interest in Church History.
Bob has held a private pilot's licence for 14 years and has enjoyed commuting throughout Scotland by private plane.
