Solidarity candidates

The South of Scotland Regional Council of the Scottish Socialist Party voted to join Solidarity, Scotland's Socialist Movement. Rosemary Byrne MSP, Graeme McIver, and the other nine members of the SSP South of Scotland list all left the SSP to join Solidarity.

Rosemary Byrne was born in 1948 in Irvine and educated at Irvine Royal Academy, Craigie College in Ayr, where she graduated with a Dimpoma in Education and Jordanhill Colleg where she obtained a DIP.SEN. She worked as Principle Teacher for Pupil Support in North Ayrshire. She is married and is a member of the Educational Institute for Scotland. In 2003, Rosemary Byrne was elected as the seventh regional list MSP for the South of Scotland. In September 2006, Rosemary Byrne left the SSP to join Solidarity. She is a member of Irvine & District branch and is Co-Convenor of Solidarity along with Glasgow MSP, Tommy Sheridan.

Graeme McIver is a 38 year old father of four from Galashiels. He was one of the SSP's six full time paid regional organisers and during Tommy Sheridan's defamation action against the News of the World, he testified that Sheridan had not admitted visited a swinger's club to the party executive. McIver quit his South of Scotland organiser's post on the 3rd September 2006 to join Solidarity. He is a member of the Borders branch of Solidarity.
