| Fiona Hyslop was born in Ayrshire on the 1 st of August 1964 and educated at Ayr Academy, Glasgow University where she graduated with an MA (Hons) in Economic History and Sociology and the Scottish College of Textiles where she obtained a Postgraduate Dip in Industrial Administration. From 1986 until her election in 1999 she worked as a Brand Development Manager for the Standard Life Assurance Company. Fiona has been a Lothians MSP since 1999. She lives in West Lothian with her husband and three children. She joined the SNP 1986 and is a previous SNP Vice Convener for Policy and currently serves on the SNP Executive Committee. She is currently Shadow Minister for Children, Education & Lifelong Learning and is a member of the Parliament's Education Committee. In her spare time Fiona enjoys time with her family, gardening and swimming.

| Mary Mulligan was born on the 12 th February 1960 in Liverpool and educated at Notre Dame High School in Liverpool and Manchester University where she graudated with a BA (Hons) in Economics and Social Studies. She worked in staff and retail management from 1981 until 1986 and was an Edinburgh Councillor from 1988 until her election to the Scottish Parliament in 1999. She is married to John Mulligan, and they have three children. She is a member of the Roman Catholic Church and USDAW. She was appointed Deputy Minister for Communities after the 2003 election but was replaced by Johann Lamont in October 2004. | Martin Oliver, married with one daughter, is an industry consultant and was deputy controller, technology, with British Telecom Scotland before becoming member for engineering on BT's East of Scotland.
