Mike Crockart (Also number 4 on Lothians list) |
![]() |
| Liberal Democrat | ||
| Mike Crockart is a former policeman who contested Edinburgh North & Leith at the general election. In November 2005 he contested the Murrayfield ward of Edinburgh City Council following the death of veteran Tory councillor Jim Gilchrist. The Lib Dems were confident that Mike Crockhart would win the ward as they claimed they had won more votes than the Tories in the ward in 2005 Westminster election and their canvass of 1600 voters had put the Tories on 41 % and the Lib Dems at 40 per cent. However on polling day Jeremy Balfour held Murrayfield for the Tories with 50.0 % of the vote. Mike Crockhart is one of many Lib Dem candidates whose election literature has been described as 'dishonest and deliberately misleading'. A barchart on the leaflet shows the Lib Dems in second place whereas they actually came fourth at the last Scottish Parliament election in 2003. Recent electoral experience 2005 Edinburgh City Council by-election, Murrayfield, 859 votes (32.39 %) 2005 Westminster election, Edinburgh North & Leith, 12,444 votes (29.15 %) | ||
