The Scottish General Election of 2007

Horrible Holyrood
"Brown could find himself prime minister and yet forced to resign his office, unless he changed constituencies to one in England and committed himself to effectively changing nationalities should the option come up."
James Cusick, Westminster Editor in the Sunday Herald, 26 th March 2007.

Elections to the third Scottish Parliament will be held on Thursday 3 rd May 2007. As in 1999 and 2003, electors will have two votes, the first to elect their constituency MSP by the first past the post method, and a second vote to elect seven regional MSPs from party or individual lists by the D'Hondt system of proportional representation.

Elections to Scottish councils will also be held in May 2003. Councillors will to be elected by the Single Transferable Vote method of PR.

Fantasy Politics

What would have happened if the Scottish Socialist Party, who support independence, had not stood in the constituencies in 2003 and their supporters had voted for the Scottish National Party? Our analysis suggests that Labour and the Lib Dems would not have been unable to govern alone.
