System Three is the longest-established political opinion poll in Scotland, having first been commissioned by The Herald (Glasgow) in 1974, and therefore provides a unique insight into party support over the past quarter of a century.

The most regular opinion polls on support for independence - ICM - have showed majority support for independence for 1998. The results were for independence 51%, against independence 39%, don't know/no opinion 9%.
