Donald Cameron is 31 and is from Achnacarry in Lochaber.Ê His family has lived in the area for many years and are involved in farming, forestry, and local business. Donald graduated from Oxford University with a BA in Modern History, first class honours. He worked in Washington DC for the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a think-tank specialising in foreign relations. He also spent some time as an intern at the BBC bureau there. Returning to the UK, Donald qualified as a barrister in London before transferring to the Scottish Bar in 2005. He now practises full-time in Scotland as an Advocate, appearing at courts and tribunals across the country. Donald stood as the Scottish Conservative candidate in Linlithgow for the elections to the Scottish Parliament in May 2007 where he increased the number of votes for the party from the last election. Donald was selected as the Scottish Conservative candidate for Ross, Skye and Lochaber in February 2008. Donald takes a keen interest in rural matters, particularly farming and crofting. He plays the guitar and also loves the outdoors, especially hill-walking and fishing. Donald is also an enthusiastic student of Gaelic. He first started learning the language in 2001, and has studied it intermittently since, including undertaking a course at Sabhal Mor Ostaig in Skye.
