| Douglas Ross is 25 and has lived in Moray all his life.Ê Born into a farming background, his father was a farm worker, Douglas lived at Burgie Lodge farm until he was 15 when his family movedÊto Forres.Ê Douglas was a pupil of Alves Primary and Forres Academy.
On leaving secondary school, Douglas chose to study agriculture with the Scottish Agricultural College at their Auchincruive site in Ayr.Ê After four years of study he graduated with a Bachelor of Technology Honours degree in Agriculture.
After graduation Douglas took up work at a local dairy farm outside Brodie in the west of Moray, working with Pedigree Holstein cattle.Ê When the herd was sold in 2006 Douglas headed east and took up a post of dairyman at a commercial dairy farm between Elgin and Lhanbryde, where he stayed until his election to the Moray Council on the 3rd of May 2007.
Douglas sits on the Education, Audit and Performance, Appeals and both the Licensing committee and board as well as a being chairman of a sub committee which looks at the CCTV network in Moray.
Outside the Moray Council Douglas is a member of the Grampian Joint Police Board and Moray Drug and Alcohol Action Team (MDAAT).Ê Douglas also works as a parliamentary assistant to Mary Scanlon MSP in her role as a member for the Highlands and Islands andÊShadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing.
Away from politics Douglas is the Chairman of his local young farmers club in which he has won many awards, including national titles for speechmaking.Ê He is also a qualified SFA referee officiating at local junior games.
Douglas Gordon Ross is aged 25. In May 2007, he was elected at stage 9 as the third Cllr for the Fochabers & Lhanbryde ward of Moray Council.
