The Holyrood by-election caused by the death of Nationalist MSP Margaret Ewing will take place on 27 April.
Presiding Officer George Reid set the date after consulting political parties and the returning officer in Moray.
The Conservatives have named their candidate as Mary Scanlon, a list MSP for the Highlands and Islands who will resign her seat to fight the contest.
The SNP will choose its candidate on Sunday. North East list MSP Richard Lochhead is thought to be a contender.
