Labour hopeful stakes his chances on his council record

From the Press & Journal 5 th April 2006

Labour hopeful Sandy Keith yesterday said he had every chance of winning the Moray seat in the Scottish Parliament by-election later this month.

The Moray councillor launched his campaign with party members and Minister for Parliamentary Business Margaret Curran MSP in his council ward of Bishopmill East, Elgin.

He said voters would back him because of his record of campaigning on local issues as a member of Moray Council.

"It is an open contest. Labour has come very close in this constituency in the not-too-distant past," he said.

"I think it will help being the only candidate who actually lives in the constituency with a chance of winning. The strong work I have done over the past few years and the work Labour has done both at Westminster and Holyrood will also help. I also think this constituency has had representatives before who did not seem to do a great deal."

The issues he said he would focus on would be flood prevention, an Elgin bypass and dualling of the A96 Aberdeen-Inverness road to boost the Moray economy.

He said he wanted to be seen as a representative not only of Elgin but of the whole region.
