Tory MSP Mary Scanlon has resigned her list seat at Holyrood to contest the Moray by-election caused by the death of nationalist MSP Margaret Ewing.
Ms Scanlon, who represents the Highlands and Islands, must stand down as a list MSP to challenge for a different seat.
She will be formally selected on Wednesday as the Conservative candidate for the Moray by-election.
Dave Petrie will be offered her list seat for the Highlands and Islands.
