At 25, she is the youngest MEP in Europe and holds the third Labour seat for Scotland.
She works for Aberdeen South MP Anne Begg and is a former young Labour representative on Labour's national executive committee.
Miss Taylor is currently on the ruling body of the Labour Party in Scotland, the Scottish executive committee, where she represents the interests of local organisations and women's sections.
She came to prominence in 1995 during a Labour conference where she gave a speech on raising education standards. Miss Taylor has an MA in international relations from St Andrews University, where she was also the president of the students' union in 1994, and an MLit in international security studies.
She was an unsuccessful Labour candidate in Angus for the 1997 General Election. She currently lives in St Andrews, Fife, with her partner, David.
Miss Taylor plans to focus on agricultural concerns, environmental reform, expansion of tourism, transportation issues including petrol prices, and public health issues, especially for the handicapped and disabled.
