| Labour MEP for Mid Scotland & Fife 1984 - 1999 | |||
In an incredible judgement, Alex Falconer, Euro-MP for Mid Scotland and Fife was suspended from the Labour party in October 1997 merely for daring to voice his his opposition to PR for European elections in a radio interview.
However Mrs Glenys Kinnock MEP for South Wales East who clearly broke clause 2 in an outspoken attack on Alex Falconer and other Labour MEPs was not suspended.
The draconian suspension of Mr Falconer and other MEPs for expressing socialist views is in stark contrast with New Labour's unwillingness to combat the sleaze and corruption that is rife everywhere from local government to the very highest levels of the party, where the price of a favour is £1,000,000.
Four Scottish MPs - John McAllion (Dundee East), Norman Godman (Greenock & Inverclyde), Ian Davidson (Glasgow Pollok), and Dennis Canavan (Falkirk West) have endorsed claims by the suspended MEPs that New Labour is heavy-handed and anti-democratic.
Dennis Canavan and Ian Davidson paid the price for this by being excluded from the list of candidates for the Scottish Parliament which was drawn up by a heavyweight in the New Labour heirarchy, leading Network member, Rosemary McKenna MP. The list of approved candidates included Mrs McKenna's daughter.
You might think that. I couldn't possibly comment!
