The constituency map shows which constituency was won by each party in the first vote. Each of these constituencies is represented by a constituency MSP.
The regional map shows which party polled the most votes in each constituency in the regional list vote. Scotland is divided into eight regions with between eight and ten constituencies in each region. The regions each have seven regional list MSPs, allocated by the d'Hondt proportional representation system.
As there are 73 constituencies, but only 56 regional seats, the result is not strictly proportional. A much more proportional result would have been obtained had each region been assigned 9 seats to give 73 constituency seats and 72 regional seats.
