There was a by-election for the Solway Border ward of Dumfries & Galloway Council on the 13 th September 2001 following the resignation of Labour Cllr David Sword.
Solway Border is in the new Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale & Tweeddale Westminster parliamentary seat (held by Tory David Mundell MP) and the Dumfries Scottish parliamentary seat (held by Labour's Dr Elaine Murray MSP).
Conservative gain from Labour. Swing: 9.3 % from Labour to Tory.
