 | 'A Lord Provost is at the centre of an in-party row over allegations that a Labour colleague was behind an anonymous smear against him. In a move that will be seen as extremely embarrassing for Edinburgh City Council's ruling Labour group, Lord Provost Eric Milligan accused housing convener Brian Weddell of being the author of a letter containing unfounded allegations that he used air miles accrued on council business for personal use. Mr Milligan claimed he could back up the allegation with the help of a handwriting expert when he made the accusation during a meeting of senior Labour councillors on Tuesday. He also called for Mr Weddell to pull out of the council elections next month at the meeting, which was also attended by Labour's Scottish general secretary, Alex Rowley.'
