There was a by-election for the Kirkshaws ward of North Lanarkshire Council on the 8 th of December 2005.

Kirkshaws is in the Coatbridge, Chryston & Bellshill Westminster parliamentary seat (held by Labour's Tom Clarke MP) and in the Coatbridge & Chryston Scottish parliamentary seat (held by Labour's Elaine Smith MSP).
