There was a by-election for the Huntly East ward of Aberdeenshire Council on the 9 th of June 2005 following the death of Cllr Alexander Buchan on 27 th March 2005.
Drumry is in the Gordon Westminster parliamentary seat (held by Lib Dem Malcolm Bruce MP) and in the Gordon Scottish parliamentary seat (held by Lib Dem Nora Radcliffe MSP).

The Chairman, Members of the Committee and the Area Manager (Marr) paid tribute to Councillor Alexander Buchan, Local Member for Huntly East, who died on Sunday 27 March, 2005 following a short illness.
The Committee observed a one minute silence as a mark of respect.
The Huntly East seat, which was contested by five candidates on June 9, was held by the Conservatives.
The by Ğelection followed the death in March of Alexander Buchan who had represented Huntly East since the local government elections in 2003.
The Marr area committee councillor took the seat for the Conservatives with a majority of 45 votes.
It was held last night by Moira Ingleby with a majority of 59.
