There was a by-election for the Clune Brae/Devol ward of Inverclyde Council on the 6 th September 2001.

Clune Brae/Devol is in the new Inverclyde Westminster parliamentary seat (held by Labour's Father David Cairns MP) and in the West Renfrewshire Scottish parliamentary seat (held by Labour's Trish Godman MSP).
