Rosiejak calls for Councillor Liz Harris to be remembered

From Dunfermline Lib Dems, 3 rd January 2006

Three years after the sad death of Dunfermline Liberal Democrat Councillor Liz Harris from cancer, a former colleague has called for one of the new eastern expansion schools to be named in memory of her.

Councillor Joe Rosiejak, Opposition Spokesman on Children's Services, made the appeal in a letter to the Committee's Convenor Tom Dair, following the agreement of the contract to build the new schools.

"Councillor Liz Harris served our city and our council well over many years and it was a very sad loss when she passed away in 2002," said Councillor Rosiejak who now represents Liz Harris' former ward - Brucefield and Nethertown.

"Liz was a former teacher and powerful advocate for education. She latterly worked for the RSPB in the education department."

"It would be a fitting tribute to name a new school after Liz. It would act as an inspiration to its pupils and the local community."

"I have written to Councillor Tom Dair today to make the request and hope that he consider the recommendation favourably."
