Party Composition in Island Unitary Councils

Political Composition of Scottish Island Unitary Councils

The following table lists the political composition of the Scottish Island Unitary Councils at the date of the last elections in May 1994. The present council composition (to the best of my knowledge) is also given. All wards which have changed hands at by-elections are noted. A number of wards have also changed hands due to defections, expulsions and suspensions, however the list may not be exhaustive in this case.

It should be noted that an election for Laxdale in the Western Isles was held at a later date due to a lack of candidates at the Unitary elections. On 5 th May 1994, there were no candidates for ward 1 - Kirkwall Pickaquoy in Orkney. I am unaware whether this vacancy has since been filled.
