State of the Nation
BBC Vote 99
As well as the Scottish parliament elections, the Welsh assembly elections and local elections are also covered.
Includes a virtual election simulator
A prime site
Scottish CND
Interactive database where you can find out which candidates are standing and their views on Trident.
You can also sign the declaration against nuclear weapons which will be sent to the Scottish Parliament
Scottish National Party
Information on the SNP's candidates and maps of the constitiuencies. The SNP manifesto can also be downloaded in pdf format. The continuing high standard of the SNP's web site is a credit to the volunteers who run it. The site was revamped in April and the address changed from www.snp.org.uk to www.snp.org - so the SNP has 'virtually' disposed of the uk ;-)
You can also download the SNP manifesto as a pdf from Europe the USA or see it in text format.
Scottish New Labour / Monster Raving Liddell party
Launched in February. Labour were the last party to get their own Scottish web site. (There were two earlier sites but these were shut down by the London leadership before the 1997 General election for fear that the Scottish party might embarrass them with socialist or left wing ideals.) This site includes information on Labour's Holyrood candidates.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist party
Previously the Scots Tories had a part of the UK site reserved for them but since March they have a new site with their own domain. Information on their candidates can be found here.
Scottish Liberal Democrats
The Scottish Liberal Democrats have a well organised site with information on each constituency and candidate.
The Scottish Parliament.com
Launched in the first weekend in April 99. A very nice looking site complete with an excellent cybervoting section and links that tell you how many times they have been used. The results should be on line as soon as possible. Those who set up the truly awful Scotsman site could learn a lot from this one.
Mo Dhachaidh
New, but promising looking site
The Scottish Parliament Infocenter
Information on the parliament buildings and site
Scottish Parliamentary Election Website
By the Scotsman. This site looked to be promising but remains inaccessable to me. I haven't yet been able to access the maps as they have no plug-ins for Unix or MacOS and the java gives errors on all our Macs and X terminals. Not exactly in the spirit of openness of the web.
The site should have the results on line as they come in - fine if you can access it. If you can't the BBC is a much better bet. All in all, a complete waste of space.
Devolution
By the Herald. Interesting but has not been updated for a considerable time
