Ex-editor chosen to fight Falkirk West

The Scottish National Party has chosen David Kerr as its candidate for the Falkirk West by-election.

The former editor of the BBC's Newsnight Scotland programme was selected by constituency association members on Thursday evening.

He said: "The SNP will be fighting to win this important by-election."

The Westminster seat became vacant earlier this month after the resignation of Dennis Canavan, who will continue as an independent MSP.

Mr Kerr, 27, has moved from his post to another department at BBC Scotland's headquarters in Glasgow.
