David was born on the 26 th August 1954 and educated at Liberton High schol. He then graduated with an BA in economics from Heriot Watt Univrsity and an MA in European management and European law fom Leicester University. He married Margaret Mary Cook in 1979 and they have one son and a daughter. In 2002, Martin left his wife for Lorraine Davidson, a former Labour spindoctor and journalist, with whom he has a child. David Martin worked as a stockbroker's clerk from 1970 until 1974 and as a animal welare campaigner from 1975 to 1978. He is a member of the TGWU and GMB. His hobbies include walking reading and relaxing with family. He speaks English and French.
He was a Lothian Regional Cllr from 1982 until 1984 when he won the Lothians European constituency from the Tories. He was Lothians MEP from 1984 until 1999 when he became a MEP for Scotland. He has saught a Westminister seat on several occasions but has never been selected. In 2001 put his name down for the Scottihs parliament Strathkelvin &am; Bearsden after Sam Galbraith's resignationbut was required to "withdraw" from the selection process after the Labour's national executive ruled that he could not stand without its permission.
In the European Parliament David Martin has been a member of the Economic & Monetary Affairs committee, a substitute member of the Constitutional Affairs committee and a member of the Canada Delegation. He was leader of the Labour group from 1987 to 1988, and became a Vice Presidnt of the Parliament in 1989. In 1994 he was asked to write the European Parliament's agenda for the Maastricht review, having previously helped to produce the treaty itself. David Martin is the current longest-serving Scottish MEP.

Catherine Taylor was born on the 30 th July 1973 and educated at Coltness High School in Wishaw and St Andrews University where she graduated with a MA in geography and international relations in 1996, and a Mlitt in international security studies in 1998. She was also the president of the students' union in 1994. She married David Stihler in 2000. She worked as a political researcher for Aberdeen South MP Anne Begg from 1997 to 1999 and is a former young Labour representative on Labour's national executive committee. A member of the Scottish executive committee, she came to prominence in 1995 during a Labour conference where she gave a speech on raising education standards. She is a member of Amicus, the Cooperative Party and MSF. Her hobbies include films, singing, reading and going to the gym. She speaks English, French, German and Spanish.
She stood for Angus at the 1997 Westminster election and was the youngest MEP in Europe when she was narrowly elected, aged 25 in 1999, as the third Labour MEP for Scotland. In the European Parliament, she was a member f the Environment, Public Health & Consumer Policy committee and the Fisheries committee, the EU-Hungary Joint Parliamentary Committee delegation and a substitute member of the Foot & Mouth Trmporary commitee.
She stood as Labour candidate in the Dunfermline & West Fife by-election in 2006. According to Labour's rules, Stihler should have resigned as a Euro MP before becoming a Westminster parliamentary candidate, but, luckily for her, this rule was waived, as she failed to hold the seat, which was won by the Liberal Democrats.
