Labour has regained Conservative & Unionisttrol of Renfrewshire Council which it lost due to an expulsion and a defection during the course of the last council. It now has an overall majority of two.
The composition of Renfrewshire Council is now 21 Labour (-1), 15 Scottish National Party (+2), 3 Liberal Democrats and 1 Conservative & Unionist (-1). There was no change in the number of wards here.
Two wards have changed hands since the last election. The Scottish National Party gained Blythwood (Ward 26) from Labour and Bridge of Weir South & Brookfield (Ward 32) from the Conservative & Unionists.
Labour regained the two wards which it lost during the course of the last council - Saucel & Hunterhill (Ward 14) where Paul Mack had been expelled from the Labour party and Deanside (Ward 27) where Elizabeth McIntosh had first resigned from the Labour party and then joined the Scottish National Party.
In addition to Paul Mack and Elizabeth McIntosh, a number of well known faces will be absent from the new council. The Labour Provost Nancy Allison has retired as has the Ferguslie councillor Henry Reevie, a Council Convenor who was suspended from the Labour party.
Three previous Renfrewshire councillors are now members of the Scottish Parliament - the Labour Council leader Hugh Henry is now MSP for Paisley South while the Scottish National Party's Colin Campbell and Sandra White are MSPs for the West of Scotland and Glasgow respectively.
Three other Renfrewshire Councillors, the Scottish National Party's Ian MacKay and Bill Martin and the Lib Dem Eileen McCartin also stood unsuccessfully for the Scottish parliament. Bill Martin and Eileen McCartin remain in the council.
Under PR (D'Hondt system), Renfrewshire Council would be under no overall Conservative & Unionist with 17 Labour, 16 Scottish National Party, 4 Conservative & Unionist and 3 Liberal Democrat councillors.
