Labour move Mo into Ayr campaign fight

From the Ayrshire Post

TONY Blair failed to show . . . but one of Labour's biggest hitters, Mo Mowlam, was expected in Ayr on Thursday to boost the party's by-election campaign.

She will be the latest in a long line of political heavyweights who have hit the campaign trail and who this week included Liberal Democrat Leader Charles Kennedy and Scottish Education Minister Sam Galbraith.
At a press conference on Tuesday, flanked by Stuart Ritchie, the Liberal Democrat candidate, Mr Kennedy used the opportunity to demand that Chancellor Gordon Brown abandon the Government's plans for a 1p reduction in income tax from April.
He claimed: "The UK GovernÐment was elected to sort out the problems in our public services - not to cut taxes." And he added: "The Chancellor has a huge treasure chest and he should start to spend it now, not on tax cuts but on hospital and schools this year...not next year."
