"It is also a humiliation for Labour, slumping from second to fourth place. Labour's share of the vote fell by ten points, and the Tories were virtually static.
"Labour are is serious trouble in Scotland and Wales, and these trends stand the SNP in extremely good stead for the Ayr by-election."
