Anniesland goes to the polls

In BBC Scotland News 23 rd November 2000

Voters go to the polls on Thursday in the Glasgow Anniesland by-elections.

Polling stations open at 0700GMT for the constituency's 52,000 voters to decide who they want to succeed the late Donald Dewar.

The former first minister's death in October left a double vacancy.

He represented the constituency at Westminster and in the Scottish Parliament.

To avoid any confusion, the electorate will be given separate, colour-coded ballot papers.

The ballot paper for the Scottish Parliament ballot will be lilac, while the paper for Westminster will be white.

The constituency's 24 polling sites will be open until 2200GMT.

The two counts will take place simultaneously on Thursday evening.

The results will be covered by BBC Scotland on radio, television and the internet.
